It’s been a few days now since I’ve started my semester abroad in the USA and I still feel very lonely.
I’ve never thought that I’d miss my family and friends that much. Mum’s “clean your room now” or dad’s “Please be home at 11 pm!” In Germany it totally gets on my nerves, but here I actually miss someone who briefs me.
The last days were very hard. I was full of doubts and I felt alone in this big unknown country.
The first way to the university was very complicated and I also didn’t know where I should sit next to in the cafeteria. What an awkward feeling, it seems like everyone is staring at me – “The new one”
In Germany my bus driver knows my lateness and always welcomes me with a friendly “good morning sleepyhead!”
In the cafeteria of our university Michael, Steve and Lauren always waited for me at our usual seat, at 10.00 am for having lunch.
At the moment I’m listening to the song, me and my friends danced to, two weeks ago in our favorite club.
But here in the USA I don’t have any habits which lift me up and stabilize me.
Normally I use to come home but here it’s just a room I live in…
What Luc still does not realize is, that he already has new companions in the USA . Of course they are not familiar as his companions at home, but they do exist.
He just has to accept them for what they are.
Whether his new fellow students, his neighbors, his professors, the bus driver or the seller in the supermarket – all of them join his way of life in the USA in any manner.
And possibly it would not take a long time until Luc will dance with new mates in American Clubs.
